Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleed from Bangladesh facing mass uprising and landed in India’s northeastern city of Agartala on Monday.
Before fleeing, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned to make way for an interim government to run the country, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said in an emergency press conference.
However, Sheikh Hasina was denied asylum in India, according to ABP Live, an Indian news site.
Reports emerged in Indian media that she may be on her way to London.
Sheikh Hasina is likely to stay in India until the UK grants her asylum, reports Republic TV.
It said that India is likely to provide Hasina all logistical support, reports an Indian the TV channel.
Hasina has left Bangladesh in a C130J transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force.
Sheikh Hasina left the capital Dhaka in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation.
Earlier on Sunday the anti-discrimination student movement has moved up the “March to Dhaka” programme from Tuesday to today to press for their one-point demand – the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
They called upon the students and people from across the country to join the march towards the capital.
