Gender-Sensitized Health Camps for Waste Workers to Be Held in Chattogram on Tuesday

BN Report, Chattogram
Two gender-sensitized health camps for waste workers will be held across Chattogram City Corporation areas on May 12 to address occupational health risks and improve access to basic healthcare.

The camps are being organized by UNDP Bangladesh under the Plastics Circularity Project (PCP), in partnership with the Coca-Cola Foundation.

Scheduled from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the camps will take place at Masterpol (Ward 19, Baluar Dighi) and Rajakhali Bridge (Ward 18, Bakulia). Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Conservancy Officer of Chattogram City Corporation, will attend as the chief guest at the Masterpol venue.

More than 100 male and female waste workers will receive health screenings, medical consultations, medicines, and dignity kits.

Organizers said informal waste workers play a crucial role in plastic recycling in Chattogram but face significant occupational health risks and limited access to healthcare. The initiative aims to improve their wellbeing and raise awareness about occupational health in the informal sector.
